"Discmaster" is the result of requests
from the public to produce a product of
similar capabilities to our infamous
"Disc disector" which is available for
the CBM 64.
The finished article is the work or Dave
Lucas and kelvein Bishop who operate under
the name of "DRAYSOFT".
Disc backup is the main aim of
"Discmaster" and the result is the
"Duplicator" program which at the time
of writing has not been known to fail. It
is unlikely that this will continue to be
the case, but as and when the disc
protection schemes become more
sophisticated then updates will become
available.
OPERATION
---------
To boot up the menu of "Discmaster" use
the command:
RUN"DISC (RETURN)
This will load and display the main menu.
The options can be loaded by pressing the
appropriate keys. is. 1-4.
OPERATION
---------
Pressing "1" will load and run the
"DUPLICATOR" program. You are then
presented with an option to use either a
single drive or twin drive set sup. Press
"1" for the former or "2" for the latter.
It is then just a case of following the
screen prompts to make a perfect backup
of your protected discs. There is no need
to format the disc to receive the backup.
NOTE: The term "Source Disc" refers to
the original that you wish to copy and
the term "Destination disc" refers to the
blank disk that you wish to copy onto.
Pressing "2" will load and run the
"Extended Catalogue" program. Once loaded
simply insert the required disc in the
drive and press any key. An extended CAT
will be done that will give you the name,
file type, start address and length in
bytes of all programs with the obvious
exclusion of headerless files.
Pressing "3" will load and run the "Menu
Maker" program. This allows you to create
a loading menu on your own discs. At the
prompt insert the disc ro receive a menu
and press any key. After a few moments
the name of the first of the files on the
disc will be displayed along
with a prompt "Include in menu (Y/N)".
Press "Y" to include a particular program
in the completed menu or "N" to not
include. Thsi process will be continued
for all the programs on the disc. Once
all the required titles have been
selected you are prompted to insert the
"Discmaster" disc and press a key. More
information will be loaded then at the
next prompt insert the disc to receive
the menu and press a key once more, the
finished menu will be saved to the disc.
The complete menu can be used by typing
the command:
RUN"MENU (RETURN)
Pressing "4" will load and run the
"Recover" program. At the prompt insert
the disc and press any key. The disc will
be searched and any previously erased
programs will be shown along with a (Y/N)
prompt. At this point you can decide
whether or not to reinstate a program to
the directory. (Bear in mind that this
can only done if enough free space exists
on the disc).
